rabbit: lunarian a
fear, the ephemeral and multiplication.
racing through this air of writer’s fog; ascertaining where we go next and where to walk through the mystery of fear, and misery - i’ll become the rabbit, listening and waiting - finding the way lit for me by the moon - I sit in somewhat hazy surroundings, but with the help of the archer, i’ll be attuned to my path again.
(my) understandings of rabbit are from that of a spectator and semi-witness, as someone who considers myself a friend of the moon; a student, someone who wants to embody him-her wholly - (the moon is known to have both ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ fancies, how it is referred to depends specifically on the pantheon).
knowing the flesh and blood and bones of who rabbit is more precisely is a uniquely different thing typically reserved for people who see, live with and be (physically, psychically or otherwise) them a lot more often than I do, perhaps living in more of a full rural setting, acting as a hunter or being a person who tends to them or consumes them often.
deepening in moon + fear studies, I’m coming to love the archetype of the rabbit. quite so.
she, and he are icons of many things that I’ve identified:
1) unbridled abundance, making space and room for family, natural continuation without restriction (and particularly - continuation of life under threat, or harm caused to a family of families through continuous structural development on their living or indigenous land).
1.5) the creation of burrows as multi-generational structures - mimicked for animal husbandry, allowing for easy domestication, providing overall benefit for apex predators who breed rabbits under such conditions for easier access to meat and fur.
2) fear - rabbit faces many threats, some perceived, some spectral, some made real.
we never know what is in the dark listening and waiting (meant as warning; there is always the possibility for hurt nearby).
we never know what is in the dark listening and waiting (meant as affirmation of love and protection; there is always help nearby if we need - just call)
the moon sees all under their domain, and rabbit senses most.
3) the event of human hunting - muddied boots, walking through tall grass to shoot at rabbit - be it for attaining trophies - the collection of bodies for food for kin, man-made fun or testing.
what do we chase? is it ours to claim? what do we make ours, and why? how do we move with respect, when we must hunt to survive? does joy and power come from the killing, or the feeding of our family - what if both? who are we bigger than? how do we use our bodies for best continuation and health? what is power? how do we approach those with supposed disadvantage?
4) luck; rabbit’s heart is pumping steadily; he knows when to move, when to go, when to breed, where to come along to, how to sleep, when to thump and be and love, and rest (sleep and rest are not the same) - rightness (not necessarily morality; but what is to be done in the now, for the best cause; whatever the best must be) is his liege.
5) the necessity of environmental, psychic + spatial awareness: born blind, he must adopt multiple forms of perception:
whom is without it is more easily captured at the hunt. too though, it is innate, sometimes sense is not enough to escape bullet, but it is our power. we do what we can to survive.
6) moon-lit runs + protection amongst the forest, needing to slow and smell in the light of the dark - feel the wind on your whiskers, and bathe when god calls for [it].
7) the power of softness, roundness and the plushness associated with rabbit; becoming a protective image typically associated with vulnerability (those prone to domestication, and ill treatment), youth, and all of everything that love is (life coming, and death rising) - the identity of rabbit has continued its evolution and weaved its way into the lives of babes; i’m sure it forever will.
let them remember they are powerful, and can continue growth for all of our best.
8) knowledge of intuitive being - a unique and original time is greatly expressed within her body, rabbit is naturally not without an edge.
no matter how much we emphasis or take away certain features, rabbit will always be rabbit.
her foot will always keep and protect some of the ground’s time.
